I'm a 25 year-old with not so great skin and need help. I don't get huge zits, just clusters of really little ones and some ruddiness. I need a treatment that is effective, overdrying, and safe (i'm wary of accutane)! What's a good acne medication that is somewhat affordable, safe, easy to use and effective?
To get rid of acne. Try a gentle cleanser. One that is glycerin or sorbitol based will be good and it does not need to be expensive. Cetaphil and Neutrogena has some pretty good ones. Try Cetaphil庐 Gentle Skin Cleanser.
Proactiv works for some people it clears up for a while but acne may come back. It is also very harsh on your skin and may dry it all up, definitely not for people with sensitive skin. My friend said it corroded and bleached her metal sink so if it can do that to the sink, think of what it is doing to your face. So Proactiv is a no no.
Wash your face at least twice a day and everytime after you perspire. If your skin is the oily kind, you do not need to apply any moisturizer, your skin oils are enough to keep it hydrated. If you really must apply a gentle light oil free one. Cetaphil庐 Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 15 or Cetaphil庐 Moisturizing Lotion is quite good
Apply pimple cream to the acne area. Try benzoyl peroxide low strength(2.5%) first. Don't pick poke scrub or pop your pimples unless you want scars which are really ugly. Scrubbing cleansers or washes are also no-nos because it equals picking and poking and makes acne worse Treated pimples gently.
Eat healthy. Make sure you drink plenty of water. Cut down on sugar and carb intake. Foods like chocolates, coffee, soda drinks, bread, rice potatoes or anything starchy and sugary are no-nos. Cut down on oily and fried foods also. Go for grilled, steamed or baked food. Make sure you eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Ensure that your diet is rich in vitamin A, C, E and Omega-3 which are important for the skin. Less stress and sleeping enough is also important. Not having enough sleep is like putting stress on your body. Makes sure you sleep at least 8 hours a day.
If you are a smoker. Try to quit. Smoking causes a lot of damage to your skin because it introduces toxins to it. These toxins can clog the pores or make the skin harder to breathe and that鈥檚 when the acne bacteria set in. The toxins also cause longer healing of the acne as well as the marks and scars left behind by acne.
If all else fails and your acne is still very bad, it is time to see a dermatologist. The pills and medications do work but you may have to take them long term to suppress the acne as it is not a cure and acne is a chronic disease. However the pills are not miracles and you won鈥檛 see results in 2-3 days. It normally takes about 2 weeks to see the difference. However not all dermatologists prescribe pills unless your acne is really bad. The pills will include antibiotics, accutane and contraceptives. If your acne isn鈥檛 that bad, dermatologists will prescribe topical creams first. If you are really going to a dermatologist, I suggest asking about a product known as Retin-A that treats acne and acne marks and heals the scars. What's a good acne medication that is somewhat affordable, safe, easy to use and effective?
My son uses Clear Advantage by Arbonne.
It's easy to use and a lot better for you then most brands (meaning it has botanicals in the regime too).
His skin is very healthy and his doctor has since endorsed this product - (it is a 3 step regime and a daily supplement)
Affordable ? That I don't know what to say, but it's worth every dime.
You should just invest in a reliable and effective acne skin care system such as Proactiv, or use some scrubs/cleansers like Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Cleanser, Oxy Daily Wash, or Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Daily Scrub.
I use cleocin gel with excellent results. I bought it here:

WATER! You need to stop putting soap or any chemicals on your face ... just 'scrub thorougly' with HOT water and an 'relatively inexpensive' wash cloth (the expensive ones are too 'cushy' and you need a bit of 'scrub' power in those little loops in the terry cloth) ... then 'rinse' your face THREE TIMES using 'slightly cooler' water each time until it's 'cold' on the last rinse. Do this 'thorough washing' AT LEAST three times a day. If you can do it five or six times a day it's even 'better' for you 'skin' ... it will take about 2-4 weeks for all of the 'zits' to clear up, but once they're gone if you don't use anything but PLAIN HOT WATER to clean your face (you may use a moisturizing make-up remover first, but you must 'wash everything with plain water' after) you'll have a 'good face' for life ...
Try keeping you skin clean and try using hydrogen peroxide. Good luck.
Tea Tree Oil. Use a q-tip and dab it on. Leave it on. Don't put too much. It'll burn if too close to your eyes. You can wash your face about 5 minutes after you apply it. And at night, put a little on your most troubled spots, and sleep on it. They will dry and go away, like magic. Great Australian cure!
proactive works like wonders.... you will be suprise...its only $19 a month and trust me i had my face bad bad bad and tried literally everything and spent so much money on neutrogena, aveeno, and at the end i had to try proactive and the money is totally worth it. in about 2 to three weeks my face cleared up and i get like one bcuz of my period but thats it
I found that Tea Tree Oil really helped my acne. Yes. It is the oil from a Tea Tree. You can buy it at most pharmaceutical
stores and places like the Body Shop and Boots and it's not expensive. It smells great too!
I know this is going to sound like a commercial, but I LOVE proactive.
everyone I have had try it loves it too. I am 30 and have the same skin as you, but not with proactive.
It costs about $30/month...not bad.
pro-activ.... its the only thing that has worked for me and that i like!
An excellent remedy for pimples or acne-prone skin can be made by mixing 1 teaspoon ground cloves with 2 tablespoons fullers earth and ice water. When you wash your face, use sugar to scrub it, at least once a day, for two weeks to rid yourself of acne. Check out http://useinfo-acne.blogspot.com/ for more useful info.

Can my doctor (not dermatologist) prescribe an acne medication?
My dermatologist's number changed, and I can't find it now.
I don't want to have to go through getting a referral, so can I just go to my normal doctor about my skin? Can my doctor (not dermatologist) prescribe an acne medication?
Yes you can. I was prescribed minocycline by my family doctor which worked really well. Just talk to your doctor and they can determine which medication is best suited to you, be it orally injested or some type of cream. It doesn't matter if they're not your dermatologist.

If i start using differin acne medication once every other day instead of every day, what will happen.?
does differin have any lasting effects. please list sources. If i start using differin acne medication once every other day instead of every day, what will happen.?
You'd have less dry skin, but your acne may not get better quicker. Get a good moisturizer for the dry skin. Look up differin on the internet to read side effects. Your doctor can do a chemical peel, then a silk peel for the acne. Worked wonders on my son's face.

Will changing foundations have any effect on the typical burning of your acne medication?
Sorry, this may sound like a slightly irrelevant and stupid question but i've got to ask.
Every day i wash my face twice a day and put acne medication at night up until about the last few days i've just been washing my face once at night and putting the medication on. Well i got tired of my old foundation so i bought some new kind lastnight. Tried it on today, worked perfectly fine and actually better. I did my make-up the same as always except that one change. Just a few moments ago when i washed and put the medication on, it seems to be burning more than ever. Which hasn't happened in a looong time since my face started really clearing up.
Any relevance whatsoever between the two or just coincidence? Rude remarks aren't neccessary ty.Will changing foundations have any effect on the typical burning of your acne medication?
Since different foundations have different ingredients, it might be the cause. All you have to do is use a good moisturizer because maybe the foundation you're using it's a little over drying, which explains why it burns when you put the medication on. Be sure to also use a good makeup remover.
Olay complete is a great moisturizer for oily skin, and it also has SPF 15.
Good luck!

Is it bad if you dont wash your face before using acne medication?
will it be ineffective if i dont? or counter productive as in WILL IT MAKE IT WORSE IF I DONT?Is it bad if you dont wash your face before using acne medication?
I think you should wash your face first before applying anything. Cleansing will take away the dirt in your skin and cleanse your pores as well,so it will be more effective if you do,I believe. Is it bad if you dont wash your face before using acne medication?
It depends on the type of acne. Talk to a dermatologist. But what worked for me was tanning. 5 minutes in a tanning bed three times a week took care of most of my acne, especially on the back, chest, and shoulders. my dermatologist prescribed differin gel for my face and it worked to.
It does depend on the type of acne, but some kinds occur when your pores get clogged and infected. Acne involves your pores a lot so if you open up your pores by washing your face then it will work a lot better. Acne medication doesn't work as well for me if I don't was my face or steam my pores.
i think it might work better if you do, wash it with a face wash or i guess soap if you have nothing at all, and use warm water to open your pores so it can get all the dirt and oil out of your skin, and then apply the acne medication on your clean skin
no it shouldn't (i dont ALWAYS n i haven't had any problems... i just do if i have the time) but u should do, just to be on the safe side :)
hope i helped :) x x
well it wont work as well because it wont be able to get down into your pores.
if you wash it, then it works better.IMPOLINE PRODUCTS SERVICES

Should my prescription acne medication be burning?
My dermatologist prescribed me a combination of benzoyl peroxide and clyndamycin to use at night. (I use differin during the day). But I just put on the night medication and its burning a lot and red. I just started this medication a couple of days ago, so is it just because my skin is getting used to it, or is my skin not supposed to be having this reaction?Should my prescription acne medication be burning?
Yup. its suppose to have a little stinging and irrataion. I use the same thing as you, but i stopped with the benzoyle preoxide because it really dried up my face. Dont put a lot of it, use a thin layer.Should my prescription acne medication be burning?
I would call and ask the dermatologist. I used to be on prescription acne medications and mine told me to cut back on one.
